Time goes by so quickly, doesn't it?
That's why we have to count each blessing and cherish every moment.
We must hold onto those precious moments. Hold on as tight as we can.
We've learned a lot over the course of this journey. We learned that life can surprise you. We learned that people will astonish you. And we learned that God never gives you anything you can't handle.
August 17th marked Arabella's half-birthday, just 5 days after discharge. It was a huge milestone, but it was extra sweet because we finally celebrated this one from home.
We celebrated birthdays, Easter, our wedding anniversary, Mother's and Father's day, and countless other holidays at the hospital...
This is one day we'll never forget. It was a typical day, I suppose, but Kiera and I took a few minutes throughout the day to look back and reminisce.
So much has happened within the last six months.
When we glance at Arabella's discharge summary we're almost in disbelief. She overcame so many challenges in her short life.
- Born 480g (<3rd percentile)
- Respiratory distress syndrome
- Chronic lung disease
- Multiple fractures
- 4 major infections
- 10 blood transfusions
- Born with an open blood vessel (PDA)
- Eventual PDA surgery
- Suspected tears in her intestine (NEC)
- Suspected bone disorders
- Pulmonary hypertension
- Anemia
- Edema
- Hypoglycemia
- Kidney issues
- Systemic hypertension
- Feeding tolerance and reflux
It felt like mom and dad could barely keep up. We felt so helpless sometimes.
But this little girl was a soldier. She continued to fight. She absolutely refused to surrender.
And over time she started doing better. She began to gain momentum and eventually surprised us all.
Suddenly, a world of black-and-white turned full colour...
And we haven't looked back since.
Arabella, we're so proud of you today.
