Handle with care

Photo of the day 💗

Again, it was nice and comfortable outdoors today.

Walking weather.

When it's not raining or too cold out, Kiera and I take a stroll to and from the hospital. By the end of the day, we've easily walked over 8km (I have an app on my phone that keeps track). Walking has helped us a lot, I've found. It's a great form of therapy.

I'm obviously getting old. I never thought I'd enjoy walking as much as I do lately.

Little Miss Ara was doing quite well today. She was feisty and alert, as she usually is when she's not sleeping. She had a few moments today where she was totally wide-eyed. Staring right into my soul.

Those are always good days, when I can look deep into her eyes.

This afternoon an orthopedic doctor came to talk to us. Arabella's blood tests have been showing elevated levels for fractures in her bones, and apparently they've found the sources after taking a close look at her x-rays. It seems she has a few fractures throughout her body, but the largest ones are in her right shoulder and one in her leg.

It's one of those things that comes with the territory. A baby's bones become dense and developed in the third trimester, and of course, Arabella missed all of that.

Her bones are still soft and pliable.

Now these stickers can be found all around her isolette (letting nurses, doctors and technicians know that they need to handle her with extra care).

Please, don't toss our baby around, okay? 😋

The fractures will likely resolve on their own. Time will do the healing. She'll get an ultrasound tomorrow on her shoulder just to make sure it's 100% okay. From what we've noticed, it should be fine. She's very active and mobile, so if there was a serious fracture she would avoid certain movements.

Arabella is really good at masking her underlying issues. You'd never know what's going on inside her just by looking at her. That's why constant tests are necessary.

No one would suspect she was going through any of her infections, and she certainly didn't look like she had any fractures either.

What a little soldier. God bless her.
