Belle Update: Apr 12

I adore this picture. Somehow these top-view angles can really capture a moment.

There was so much going on today for tiny Belle, but I'll skip forward to the most important.

She started her medication (indomethacin) tonight to help her close her PDA, and she'll finish her three doses by tomorrow evening. The staff must keep a close eye on her, especially during this next week so that the meds don't cause any harmful side-effects.

This should be the last and final round of drug treatment for this PDA. If this doesn't work then the surgeons might have to risk fracturing Arabella's ribs (and possibly other bones) during surgery.

It's a complex situation, and the staff at Sick Kids are doing everything possible to work it out. In the meantime, we'll just pray that this medication can help her, even a little bit.

Another day spent with Arabella is great day. We need to remember that. Be thankful for every moment.

Today we were trying to keep that in mind as the day went on.

It's too easy to get lost in all of this. All of the information that's thrown at you. The numbers, stats, tests, trends, levels, results...

It's hard to put new information into context some times. Since we're not doctors, we might not see the full picture, and it usually takes a step-back to put things into perspective.
