Belle Update: Mar 5

Belle is weighing in at 650 grams today. Most of her weight is due to water retention from the ibuprofen. Last night was her final dose so she should be losing that water weight within the next few days.

We noticed some of the nurses weigh her with her head-gear on, while others remove it. So that could be another reason why her weight is fluctuating.

The doctors tell us not to get caught up in the daily weight measurements. It's best to look at the week-to-week numbers.

Arabella's having a lot more "spells" lately. Spells happen when babies forget (or can't) breathe, so their blood oxygen levels fall. The heart slows down in response to the low blood oxygen levels and that's when the alarms come on.

DING DING DING DING!

The nurse will usually run in to increase her oxygen. At times they will rub her back (in order to stimulate her) and that brings her back up too.

It can get a little scary, but we've gotten used to it. Her heart rate will dip a lot too but she usually brings it up without any intervention. It's a good sign that she can do it by herself.

So amidst all the distress you have to find a way to relax and remain optimistic. There's no point in getting ahead of yourself and thinking the worst.

There will be good days and there will be bad ones. It's all part of the journey.

Here she is today with her tongue out 😋
