Belle Update: Mar 1

Belle's hemoglobin was low again. She needs another blood transfusion. Her levels have been dropping the last few days.

She won't be able to eat before, during, or after the transfusion (maybe a total of 5 hours without her feeds). Luckily she gained back the 20 grams she lost over the last 2-3 days.

What can you do?

Belle's alarms kept going off (signaling her oxygen levels were low). Then her heart rate dropped and more alarms went off. We've gotten used to all of the beeps and dings.

The doctor said they did another echo on her heart and it seems like she does in fact have a hole in her artery. It's called PDA.

We have a long way to go.

There will probably be no cuddle time today or tonight. She'll be tired so we'll just talk to her and allow her time to rest.

On the bright side her feeds have increased to 4mL. She makes yellowish poops (gross, I know, sorry) and that's a great sign that she's tolerating and digesting her breast milk.

Overall, she's clinically stable so there's a light at the end of this long, dark and frightening tunnel. Everything will be alright.

Every day here is different, though. Things change on the go. These babies will fight and adapt and their parents must do the same.
