Belle Update: Mar 4

Belle has been doing well since starting her PDA medication. So far so good. The doctors are going to give her a few more days before doing another heart echo. Maybe by mid next week we'll find out if the hole in her artery has fully closed (or shrunk, at least). Apparently it's quite large.

I had no idea, but preemie girls are twice as likely to have PDA compared to boys.

The things you learn.

Belle's blood work came back slightly elevated a few days ago (it might be a sign that there's an infection starting) so she's taking two types of antibiotics. The doctors are very pro-active to make sure they don't miss anything.

Poor girl is on a lot of meds right now. The wires and cables have increased lately too.

After weighing her last night, she came in at 520 grams. I don't think we need to worry, though. She's going to go up, and she'll go down.

The good news is that she looks really rosy, she's very active, and she seems to be doing well overall. The paleness she had last week has disappeared, so that blood transfusion must have helped.

She's jumped over every hurdle placed in front of her.

This morning Kiera and I both had some cuddle time with her. It feels so good just to hold her again.

They have her on the CPAP nasal prongs (instead of the face mask) since the bridge of her nose was starting to bruise and wear down from the force of the mask. Babies generally don't like the nasal prongs but she's been tolerating it well.

Everyday she's been surprising us.
